Time is the most precious commodity there is.
My perspective has been altered forever by the life-or-death experiences my family and I have endured over the last few years.
When you’re clinging to vital sign monitors for months in intensive care—watching your daughter go through multiple lifesaving surgeries—it tests you. Your faith. Your limits. And for me, it brought complete clarity about what I truly value.
When your wife is on a ventilator, nearly dying during the birth of our third daughter, and every lifesaving approach and technique are used to keep her alive—time stands still.
These — and our family’s journey through them — changed me forever, and for the better. Today, my wife and daughters are alive and doing well, years into our path of recovery and growth.
Here’s what changed for me—and how I now relate to time:
1. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Life can be cut short at any moment. Time is finite and I use it more wisely, focusing on things that align with my core values.
2. Live in the present. Facing death gave me a greater appreciation now. Cherish time and moments with your loved ones. Period. It doesn’t matter what you do. These “little moments” are precious.
3. Say not to toxic people and behaviors. Ask yourself WHO and WHAT drains your energy? Have the courage to have difficult conversations—and when necessary, remove those people or patterns from your life.
4. Prioritize real relationships. When you go through tough times, who was there with you in the foxhole? Cherish those vital few relationships. They are rare.
5. Pursue your dreams and goals with purpose. Take bold steps turning your dreams into reality. I think bigger across every party of my life—with more faith than ever. I’m not afraid to say my dreams out loud, and I’m tackling far greater goals aligned with what I truly value.
6. Take Urgent Action! Don’t wait. There may not be later.
So what about you? What are you considering after reading this?
Whatever it is —
Take Urgent Action. Now.
