The number one question University of Rochester – Simon Business School students and business people in general ask me:

What does it take to be a successful entrepreneur?

Most people think entrepreneurship is about having a great idea.

But I’ve seen a lot of “great ideas” go nowhere, and some average ones scale into giants.

Why? Because success isn’t about ideas.

It’s about execution.

If you’re thinking about the founder path, here are 3 attributes that matter more than your business plan:

1. Resilience > Perfection

You will get punched in the mouth.

Deals fall apart. Capital dries up. Competitors win a deal you wanted.

The difference-maker? Your bounce-back ability and speed. Never give up…

2. Clarity > Complexity

Entrepreneurs are rewarded for solving a clear problem, not for having the most complicated models.

Can you explain what you do in one sentence? That’s your filter.

3. Urgency > Certainty

You’ll never have all the answers.

But great founders take bold, imperfect action anyway.

Speed wins. Learn fast, iterate faster.

Entrepreneurship isn’t for the faint of heart. But for the resilient, focused, and action-driven?

It’s the best ride in the world.

Go build something that matters.

And if I can help, my inbox is open.
